Hi all!
The groundhog might have promised us six more weeks of winter, but Area 2 eventers are taking his forecast in stride. On January 25, nearly 100 eventers braved snow and ice to gather in Leesburg for the Area 2 annual meeting.
In the morning, organizers hammered out some exciting new developments for the calendar while Brian Ross led us through the new dressage tests in careful detail. Dr. Ian Harrison led a great discussion on new developments in equine health and the Stackhouses conducted a thoughtful explanation of saddle fitting (and left participants with some fantastic products for taking care of their tack).
Lunch was a yummy buffet highlighted by Dom and Jimmie Schramm’s funny and touching discussion of how skills learned in eventing are applicable to our non-horsey lives. The Schramms kindly drove up from Aiken just to participate – huge thanks to them!!
The Area 2 Awards Presentation offered a fun recap of members’ 2013 and the door prizes offered from the kind generosity of Dover, VTO Saddlery, and others were hugely popular. After lunch, both adult riders and young riders met to discuss their plans for the year, and Ann Baumgardner finished off the day with a smart discussion of sports psychology and riding.
The Silent Auction raised over $4000 for Area 2. A list of winners is below – please contact DC McBroom if you’ve not yet paid to make arrangements and receive your certificate. Thanks to all of our organizers and other donors for some great offerings and congrats to the lucky bidders!
