Changes have been made to the Area 2 Championships Policy qualification policy, effective immediately, to revise and correct a loophole in the prior policy. This change applies to all Championship competitions in Area 2 for 2010 and beyond.

The new policy provides that:

"The qualifying period for the Area II Championships is from the closing date of the previously run Championship of a given level to the closing date of the current year's Championship at the same level."

Reason for the new policy: The former policy could result in a qualifying ride not counting in any year and created some confusion about qualifying dates with some rides being used for two consecutive championships.

The new policy ensures that every ride at every horse trial (including the championship event) is eligible to count as a qualifying ride and may only be used for one championship.  As an example, under the old policy, people who obtained a qualifying result at Waredaca in August of 2009 at BN would not qualify for the BN championship in 2009 since it was after the BN CH closing date, nor would they qualify for the BN championships in 2010. Under the new policy a qualifying ride at Waredaca in 2009 will count in 2010.

The new policy will extend the qualifying periods of every Championship competition this year (except for the Preliminary Championship).  A one year transitional arrangement was introduced for Preliminary to ensure that no competitor would be any worse off because of this change. This transitional arrangement leaves the qualifying period of the Preliminary Championship unchanged from what was originally announced.
The new policy may result in a qualifying period of less than 365 days due to variances in the dates of consecutive championships.  However, this was also true of the former policy.

The former Policy:
"The qualification period for the Area Championships shall begin on the day after the previous year’s Championship or 365 days before the closing date, whichever is closer to the last qualifying date. The qualification period for the Area Championships shall end on the Closing date of the Current Year’s Championship. “

The full policy can be found in the forms section of the website. Following are the new qualification dates.
